July, 2011: In a world first, leading Australian Semillon producer McGuigan Wines, is set to launch the next generation of white wine to come out of the Australian wine industry ? The Semillon Blanc.
Taking the traditional style of Semillon and adapting it to modern expectations, this evolutionary wine style focuses on the current tastes of wine drinkers, appealing to those who love an aromatic, flavoursome and crisp white wine while using an unsung hero, and one which McGuigan are one of the best in the world at producing ? The Semillon Blanc was created when Neil McGuigan was asked by a London wine writer, ?What?s the next big thing to come out of the Australian wine industry??
?I didn?t have an answer, so it got me thinking? Neil said.
?I left my McGuigan winemakers with the challenge to develop a new style of Semillon. All were pretty good, but four were exceptional and one simply outstanding. We wanted to retain the vibrant citrus characters, naturally low alcohol and great ageing potential of Semillon whilst creating a modern approachable style.
?But what do we call it? It?s much more than the Semillon that people know today, it?s a whole new exciting style so we?ve affectionately named it The Semillon Blanc?.
The result is a totally new style of Semillon with lifted aromatics and texture. A fresh, crisp and lively wine packed full of delicious tropical fruit.
