It is *all* about timing. The easiest/best way to be assured of winners is the old method of buying "when there is blood in the streets". ie: A week after 9/11 was a brilliant buying opp. After the big drop in 2008, due to GFC was another. However it takes patience to stay in cash and wait for these events, and you have to bet that they will in fact rebound. After 9/11 some said was the start of WWWIII etc.
The other HUGE lesson I have learned (the hard way) is that it is very true that "it is a very uncommon man that can be right, and sit tight". So far I have always been right, but not sat tight. For example, after 9/11 I had $22,000 worth of Apple stock, at $7, I sold at $21 (did not sit tight)
so had $66,000 and thought I did ok. Today they would be worth $12,571,428 and I still have Macs all over the place use an iPhone etc, hate Windoze and "knew" it was a great stock. I was right but could not sit tight. I also had Amazon, eBay etc as I am a webmaster and knew the Internet would be huge. But again could not sit tight. (sold to buy real estate etc)
I have now been right about Gold since it was US$420, have done ok, but this time I will sit tight ; )
Good luck to us all!
