Wooduk, I really don't understand you. Your against Gunns but hold stock? The old Gunns, say 20 years ago, I can understand. However now, under LEstrange and the proposed feed stock only proposed Mill with the highest standards and EPA conditions than any other Mill in the world, you still come across negatively.
Simply speaking and polotics aside, Tasmania needs this Mill, it is or is proposed to be feed stock fed, that means it can't touch any of the forests, not even so much as a branch from the most fanatical tree huggers favourite tree.
Tasmania is currently 60% a welfare state of one type or another in pensions and unemployment benefits. In reality if Tasmania hadn't had a key MP for periods over the last few decades you'd Tasmania would be even worse off than it is now.
It's a simple fact, Tasmania needs Industrialization and Manufacturing to survive. The forests are a bountiful natural resource. Sure no one wants to see the forests decimated and IMO 99% of Australia is happy to see a fair portion of it as Natural Heritage. However that is not to say that there is a portion that can be harvested and regrowth planted for economy reasons.
I understand that after 30 years, a generation in reality, have been fighting Gunns and similar over the harvesting of trees. However stand up and smell the roses, THE GREENIES have won. What's left of Gunns wants to create a Pulp Mill utilizing 'plantation hardwood only'. Sure some in the Tamar Valley dont like it being in their backyard, but no one would be 100% happy anywhere.
On the other hand you have proposed before them one of the most advanced Mills in the world, with according to 'Independent' opinion a negligible smell or environmental impact on both the local area and Marine life. They are even pipe-lining what little effluent there will be out into an area of the ocean for minimal impact. In fact Independent studies has shown that there will be no impact whatsoever. The fact is there is worse effluent coming from older sewerage works in various parts of Australia.
Of course you can argue any of the above, I sometimes think it's like trying to have a reasonable conversation about differing religions with a proponent of one. Blinkers are on and unless it's 100% agreeable to their view, it a no go.
I could go on, but really whats the point, you will in all probability dismiss this as diatribe anyway.
So grab your placards (made from mill pulp) drive or fly to the designated protest point (of which a gallon of burnt fuel causes more damage than a carton of cigarettes) and have at it, I am done.
