ypres, Most people are very much the same everywhere in every country.
Given suitable circumstances, they and we are all great and hail-fellows-well-met.
However, in many situations this apparent friendliness is a very thin veneer based on a one-sided, often commercial relationship.
This seems to be closer to the surface in Indonesia these days. There is a certain resentment due to their recent (last 5 years or so) general lack of success with handling things both internally and in their relations with the outside world.
Personally I think that the entire leadership transition from Surharto onto Habibi etc etc was very poorly planned, handled and thought out and has been a large part of the problems in Indonesia.
