Iran’s zinc production to grow by 25,000 tons Tehran Times Economic Desk
TEHRAN — Iran’s current zinc production is as much as 110,000 tons per annum, which is due to be risen up to 135,000 tons in the current Iranian year starting March 21, 2005, Hussein-Ali Qanbari, managing director of Zinc Mines Development Company of Iran said on Sunday.
About half of the produced zinc is domestically consumed and half of it is exported, he told ISNA, adding, the present figure of exportation will probably increase in the current Iranian year as a result of a mount in the production.
Pointing out to the technological backwardness of domestic zinc industry from the world standards, the managing director noted that thanks to the planning made in the company, the domestic products will greatly observe the requirements of international standards within the next three years.
He further said that zinc and lead industry of the country is of high potentialities in the international competitions and is approved by the global markets, adding, presently the pricing system in this industry is an international one.
Qanbari also said that the country’s lead production is as much as 30,000 tons per annum, which completely meets the domestic needs.
