The value of a company increases as it moves from exploration, resource definition, various economic studies and production. The Chinese has moved in early to secure resource and technology and a fraction of the price at production. From the Chinese perspective it is better than buying US treasury bonds whose value could evaporate overnight.

The fact that an office is set up in Darwin, proves it is not a single transaction nor short-term, but a long-term strategy. If one has the patient to wait until production, the reward may be substantial.

If the Chinese decides to increase its holding to 49%, we could see the SP move to much higher ground. The application to the FIRB for something greater than 30% would be a signal for its intention.
