Just discovered that the self managed super fund managers I was using have shredded all my documents

the documents include contract notes from comsec and chess holding statements
What they did was scanned them and then disposed of them.

Now it seems that all I have copies.

Is their a problem with just having copies?
    Are originals needed for anything?

this practice of not holding originals I think is dangerous.
Bernie Maddof made off with billions in other people's money by producing what looked like official looking documents.
People thought they actually owned shares in this that and the other when in fact they owned zilch and Bernie had pocketed the lot.
In the end he got found out when people wanted to cash out during gfc 1

So just wondering if originals are gone how do you prove that you have ownership ie ownership that would stand up in court?
