Hey Flamencojazz, are you from the Illawarra? Port Kembla has shed jobs in a cyclical fashion over the years and everyone I know has moved on to other unskilled jobs in transport, retail, mines etc so not sure what you mean when you say that exworkers haven't got back into the workforce. The media coverage for Bluescope in the Illawarra is outdated and rehashes the old. Took win news 2 months to report that they were going to restructure and offer redundancies.
Port Kembla is in dire need of upgrade as falling to bits now but the money isn't there to maintain works hence all projects have been cancelled. It is sad to see it winding down and will be devastating to the Illawarra...
