Preaching the same stuff for thirty years isn't everything...

One of the points of a two party system is that an opposition is created by definition... so everyone's political energy can be safely spent focussed on those inside the system rather than anyone outside of it. I was a bit surprised when I learned that Ron Paul is a member of the Republican's... he obviously doesn't vote along party lines but hasn't been kicked out of the party.

Not saying that I think that he is part of the big club or not... just that I don't know but I am open to the idea.
