Mike
I have great admiration for those that speak out against the status quo.
Assange is one such person.
But Jones is a self serving non idealogue whose only interest is serving his career and ego.
He takes money from third parties to make money and has been convicted of such.
I am sure you can find fault with Voltaire but the fact is he saw hypocrisy everywhere.
I see hypocrisy in government everywhere too, but more so in the Libs than Labor.
I urge you watch Combet's address today as the contrast between Abbott's "talk" and serious political policy.
Voltaire saw religious hypocrisy and the use of warfare and power as the ultimate abuse of liberty.
He was also a believer in individual freedom and the right of all to live their lives unencumbered by moral insistence by others.
That is just what the "right" would have you do. They will have you adhering to their views on "morals" and confine you to a narrow set of priciples, ie, no same sex marriage, God being part of law, etc.
Voltaire was for the right of all to speak freely, but NOT for some to force their opinions on us.
I understand that there is an anti Gillard witch hunt and don't understand it.
Sure I understand a policy reversal on carbon BUT was because of the "coalition" of a minority government.
Howard lost my trust because of his "non core" promises which was a worse thing.
So the Gillard government has fallibilities but compared with the Abbott alternative, is so far ahead I can't understand how any reasonable person can really in good conscience have anything to do with him.
But each must make their own judgement.
