Had a good chat with a wealthy mining specialist on the weekend( gold ) in the Great Southern, who is now as interested in grape yield as he is in shares.

He made this point in regard to stock darlings and stock pariahs. When a producer is not producing sufficiently( or the cost of producing is damaging to the bottom line) consistently, then that stock is in danger of flatlining, and worse, if it gains a reputation for not being able to remedy its malaise, then the whiff of underachievement taints it for present and potential future stockholders.

Had the same problem with NEN which now seems to have been shaken off, and currently with COE. Management and the way it conducts itself with its Public Relations and the way it reports, has a lot to answer for. See AXZ in its redeeming latter year for transparent reporting to its shareholders.

This guru also made the point that studying the quarterlys and seeing who had made a strategic investment in the company, was a pretty good indicator of sound investment.

In the absence of such healthy indicators, i have jumped on board this seemingly scurvy ship anyway, in the belief that the rocks underneath the hull are the lowest that will be felt, and any number of strikes to the positive( I also have TSV which may or may not be huge ) will heave us off the reef. Lemons anyone?
