Confiscation will be a tough to carry out... gold and silver can always be hidden (gold especially) and it will be difficult to prove that you still have possession. You could simply claim that you were robbed.
I haven't read through this whole thread yet but i assume the subject of gold mine nationalisation has been broached as this will be hand in hand with confiscation. This will essentially hamstring whatever gains might have been made in the purchase of shares in these miners as i am unsure that the government will be offering a fair price(even if they do it will be paying you out in fiat). Personally I'm a fan of physical Precious metals as opposed to mining stocks.
Gold will be over USD$2000 by the end of the month even if we do get more interventions like the one we had today in Asian trading. Strap in and enjoy the ride.
