I currently reside in Townsville and plenty of places have "for lease" signs on the front lawn.
Also, I am moving to the Sunshine Coast at the end of the year so have been watching that market too, and there are plenty that have been vacant for some time and plenty of these have dropped their asking price over the months.
No housing shortage from my point of view...
