No nothing to do with Gross Profit or the Income Statement.
You will have more luck understanding the term if you look at the Cash Flow Statement.
Its simply receipts - payments to suppliers in any given period. If you went further and then deducted Net interest and tax payments from Net Receipts you would end up with Operating Cash Flow.
