a simple strategy to use is dollar point averaging on quality dividend paying stocks
ones with a good ROE, average dividend yield, a long history of stable earnings
buy at regular intervals when the market hits lows and have a pool of about 15 stocks you buy into - not all at once though!
Be patient with your buying and remember the dividends and averaging down will cushion any losses you could incur
some people say you shouldnt have so many stocks in your portfolio, but i say its a good hedge of an unexpected surprise - like COH as a recent example
there arent many of these stocks on the ASX but i can provide you with a list if you like
