Thanks for the Monk's Chart.

What is the background to it? Was this produced by a European monk? Where and why?

I note that the chart is on a Japanese rubber company's website. I suppose they use it as a reference when making trading decisions. Are there any other sites explaining this chart - it is not on wikipedia.

Do you have any idea when in 2012 the market is supposed to reach its low point (late 2012 seems likely to me).

What does it imply about the price of gold? Down or up? A lot or a little?

I am mainly invested in our goldies, and also have a bit of cash as well.

I have to agree with you that drastic surgery will be needed in Europe. This will have all sorts of impacts on other regions and markets. In the meantime the US may be heading towards a recession next year. That would be a double whammy for the markets. China's economic growth is slowing, but should stay positive.
