I have never read anything about the mineralogy to suggest refractory, however that could be a reason for such high tails grade.
If the mineralogy of the tails is refractory, then records will indicate which pit or pits the ore was sourced from - SBL should have these records, or at least the mining department would.
This is another reason why SBL should do mining studies on their in-ground resources. What are the metallurgical properties of each deposit? What about rock hardness? This will indicate how much material is free-dig, how much requires drill & blast, and how much explosives are required. What about ground water issues? Will dewatering be required? If so, how much and where can it be discharged? Geotechnical issues? Pit wall angles and slope stability?
All this information is required to be fed into the mine plan.
The poster known as robhaywood has said he is a Mining Engineer with 30 years experience. It's interesting to see that he doesnt believe this type of study is required, when surely during his career he would have been involved in such a study.
