--> what insights would a reg. nurse or a social worker have that would "qualify" them to give "advice" ??.. IMO "qualified advice" only from psychiatrist... FN's just giving general pointers

good on you for getting the help you need and not being ashamed of the problem... I know from experience how these issues can spiral so out of control if not dealt with properly, such that they can reach devestating proportions...
my mother's suffered from paranoid schizophrenia for pretty much my whole life so I can relate to the pressures these illnesses can put on families...
Hopefully discussion of mental health becoming less "taboo" will translate into some tangible action on the political, public policy scene. I believe from personal experience - trying to get help for my mum over the years - that mental health services are so poorly funded in the public system as to make obtaining treatment for all but the most ill/serious bracket of patients extremely difficult...
THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE ASAP - the effects of these illnesses on families can often be more devastating than severe physical illness... anyone who's had a severely mentally ill familiy member at home probably understands this...
good luck with it mate and respect to you for getting on top of it, best wishes to you and your family
