I would have to agree with chimi here from what I have seen.
A similar thing appears in the spectacle market (my previous trade many many moons ago).
Recently I was in Europe and the prices for spectacle frames there are stunning compared to in Australia - I regularly saw frames there for way under 200 euro that sold here for over $600 - some up to $1000.
Interestingly enough the refraction was more expensive in the Netherlands - not huge, but appreciably more.
But boy were the frames cheap compared to what we are paid.
Then again, I suppose it costs an arm and a leg to ship a lowly pair of spec. frames to down under :)
