It does seem to be hard-wired into the human brain to some extent and common to humanity across all cultural barriers...
Even the socialists find they need to replace existing religions with their religion in their own hysterical cult of the global warming/gaia cults rather than attempt to eliminate it as they have tried in the past...
Japan had bushido which was built around shinto their state religion at the time which of course was easily directed towards suicidal warfare...
All belief systems can be abused, almost all instruments can be instruments of death and destruction.
The most devout and god-fearing of all folks are often athiests on their death bed or in times of extreme duress...
These poor folk often suddenly find they have a lot they need to be sorry for and an over-riding urgency to seek forgiveness from whatever "higher being" they can...
