There have been literally tens of 1000's of Catholic priests working in Australia over the last 70 years, only a very small percentage have been acused of crimes against children. Many of these men have given up their lives to assist the poorest people in our communities. Even if the Oz govt gave up all incentives to the Christian churches thousands of govt public servants could never replicate the good work these people do.
Actually compared with the wider community catholic priests compare much better when it comes to all forms of child abuse, assault, degradation, sex slavery, murder etc. As a matter of fact the worst child molesters in Australian history are not catholic priests.
But I suppose you're going to tell me that religion is also responsible for the child trafficing sex/slavery that is rife throughout asia and that catholic priests rape, deprive, bash & murder more young women than criminal gang members do in the USA.
So unless you are prepared to give up your families and your financial objectives and be the one that is always running the soup kitchen, always visiting the sick, always delivering goods from St Vinnies, always trying to convince the drug addict prositute to seek help, maybe you'd better put a minute aside and actually reflect on the good work the vast majority of Catholic priests actually do.
