I would not call that an endorsement, more an acceptance of reality. The advice was good because with such behaviour one could curry favour with the slave owner. At least slaves had a place to sleep and a source of food.

Remember it was the Christians who eventually outlawed it, not atheists. Pity the Muslims have not done so in any realistic way.

There are still horrid individuals here who enslave.
