As suggested by you I am joining this discussion although I have no interest in this company. Perhaps a better forum for my input might be the geology forum. I posted the following para in the politics forum.

"An interesting problem from the geological as well as from environmental and legal perspectives. If the contamination arose from casing/cementing failure as you suggest, the remediation might be relatively straightforward. If stratigraphic impermeability has been compromised, then the regulator would have been right to order the shutdown IMO."

(My actual sentiment is "avoid" but this is not offered as an option.)
