Im sure he does just fine. But the fact that he can only receive this payrise if Qantas becomes a leader in its field and also provide shareholders relative returns to Australian companies suggests it is hardly in his interest to run the company into the ground when the vesting period leads to 2014.
I dont have any issues with Unions but QAN and all airlines competitive advantages run from the fact that they can run their businesses and cash flows based on bookings for the futures paid today. These Unions strikes over the last few weeks have left these diminished add to that changing the costs of low-cost carriers and something had to happen.
A deal will be done on this through Fair Work Australia but QAN could not run its business like this for the next years as its funding source continues to dry up in the uncertainty.
