I'm not sure safety is too much of an issue, even in Asia. Its not very often that any airline crashes, let alone a major one. You get minor incidents all the time but thats a part of flying and probably stuff we never used to hear about.

I'd happily fly Thai Air, SingaporeAir, Malay, etc. Where are they serviced?

Parking inspectors need to meet quotas, teachers now have websites monitoring school performance. Its a part of life.

If the QAN workforce really has reached breaking point and can't gain more efficiencies, then something needs to change.

In the same way we have foreign ownership protection, I dont see why we cant send a few more jobs overseas in return for increased salaries back home. Its give and take. Just legislate X% of all jobs must be Oz jobs.

The issue as I see it is that Unions don't have a leg to stand on because QAN can morph into Jetstar, thus getting what they want anyway.

Slowly decrease QAN flights and increase Jetstar flights.

I like to see people paid fairly. But I recognise from experience that most roles reach a point where you cant go any higher. You then need to change company or change career. Pilots should be know different. If your not happy at QAN then go elsewhere. Only problem is they know QAN is high paid by international standards.

I hope the resolution is largely good for everyone, the consumers, shareholders, workers, etc. But I think job losses are inevitable. Hopefully limited to voluntary at this stage.
