The implied threats here linking QANTAS wage levels to safety is making me think twice about every flying QANTAS again. Its scary to hear these sorts of implied threats and I have no doubt they are real and come from those involved in this dispute. Clearly there are many pro-union activists out and about today.

I would rather fly on an airline where the maintenance staff are paid less, but are dedicated to their job and pride themselves on good workmanship. I'm thinking any Asian airline except QANTAS. Who can trust an engineer that works with their left hand instead of their right hand?

It seems that QANTAS staff want premium salaries for doing what can be done in other countries for alot less.

The Unions may get exactly everything they want from this. Either way the airline clearly thinks its finished as a competitive force in aviation.

If management pay all their staff what they ask then the ticket prices necessary to cover these costs will send them out of business.

Talk about shooting yourselves in the foot.

I would say to these people who are trying to extort money from QANTAS, here's your offer. Take it or we shut the whole thing down. Don't call us, we'll call you. Take your time, have a few weeks to think it over. We're in now rush cause we can make a better return by putting our shareholders money in a term deposit at the CBA.
