Just a bit more info as I come across it. This article below was from August. I wonder if LionGold see strategic value in the plant at SBL site for tolling puposes as there grades at Abawso seem higher than SBL's grades. I assume if its economically feasible could the truck to the SBL plant (I don't know??). I think there's alot more to the story of LionGold...
LIONGOLD TARGETS ADDITIONAL HARD ROCK GOLD RECOVERY
IN ABAWSO, GHANA BY END OCTOBER 2011; GRAVITYRECOVERABLE
GOLD CONFIRMED FROM HARD ROCK MATERIAL
• As part of its ongoing search for immediate gold production in Ghana, African Stellar
(West Africa) Limited (“ASWA”) confirms positive exploration and gold recovery results from bulk sampling at the “Abawso” small-scale mining license which is a
part of Akropong package.
• Bulk sampling exercise from selectively chosen high-grade material has yielded 133.4 grams of gold from approximately 8 tons of material for 16.7g/ton Au. The gold
reported a fineness of 92.5%.
• Positive results affirm the company’s decision to immediately proceed with the acquisition of a small-tonnage production unit while further exploration work
continues.
• This positive step forms part of a larger hard-rock strategy in the area.
SINGAPORE, 25 August 2011 – LionGold Corp Ltd1 (“LionGold” or “the Group”) is pleased to announce that ongoing work at the “Abawso” small-scale concession site (a part of the
Akropong licensed package) has yielded positive results enabling the Group to proceed with its strategy to immediately acquire a small tonnage bulk sampling and production plant as a precursor to higher tonnage production from the Abawso claims. Abawso is the Group’s first hard rock site and production has been targeted to commence by end October 2011.
African Stellar (West Africa) Limited (“ASWA”)2 has been exploring on and around the Abawso small-scale mining concession since May 2011. The Abawso claims are situated on western margin of the Ashanti Greenstone Belt, a world-class gold mining province boasting the Obuasi (60m oz Au) and Ayanfuri (6.5m oz Au) gold mines.
Historical Evaluation Reveals Positive Au Grades The Abawso mine has historical gold workings dating from the early 1900’s through to 1935 as well as modern exploration by Cluff Group of Companies and JCI. Historical evaluation work reports a non-compliant resource of 220,000 tons at 3.4 g/ton Au with grades in the mine area ranging from 2g/ton Au to +15 g/ton Au. Quartz vein hosted gold had been identified. These veins occur in en-echelon arrays and stock works associated with regional shears. An 800m
strike, which is open at both ends, has been located. Historic workings are developed to 122m deep and 110m along strike. Artisanal alluvial and hard rock workings flank the hard rock target.
ASWA’s recent bulk sampling exercise from selectively chosen high-grade material to ascertain recoverable gold from ‘gravity only’ extraction processes has yielded 133.4 grams of gold from approximately 8 tons of material for 16.7g/ton Au. The gold reported a fineness of 92.5%.
Geological Work Undertaken and Completed ASWA had also recently undertaken and completed geological work at Abawso. A soil geochemistry program returned positive results and follow-up targets have been identified. Two
trends were apparent and the best results were on strike or adjacent to known mineralization.
The team had also completed a structural mapping exercise and two principal structural corridors are indicated. In addition, detailed geological mapping of the area had also been undertaken and completed. A panning program of material from waste dump, tailings, soils and
weathered hard rock had also been executed.
