"# Should Australia develop and allow export of gas at unholy haste now so as to monetorise what is probably 100-200 yrs of energy security for Australia or should it be mandated that a significant proportion be locked in and protected for future Australians?

With the position Tony Windsor has been taking over the past two days, my opinion is that he runs the risk of adversely affecting the huge majority of Australian, living and yet to be born, for the sake of satisfying a few minority goups of shrill protestors who have no answer for how the nation will function if they have their way and lead us to an energy starved future."

    PD,

I do happen to agree with most of your post, but I disagree with both of those two parts copied and pasted above.

For, I can sense a little contradiction in both of them.

In the first part for instance, you ask if "should it be mandated that a significant proportion be locked in and protected for future Australians?", and I agree fully with that comment because, if we want to be able to live we need to continue to produce food. And then with the last closing part of your post, it seem that you don't give a damn about providing food for the population that is continuing to expand and only have short term view the likes of "for the sake of satisfying a few minority goups of shrill protestors who have no answer for how the nation will function if they have their way and lead us to an energy starved future", in highlighting the very important point of the possibility of a shortage of energy in the future.

PD, we can't just be looking to be leaning towards one thing and not the other. For we may have a good supply of energy if we are to let free and go in the one way that you are saying, but we will not have enough food to keep us alive. And with the population growing at the rate we are at present, IMHO, it won't be long before we will be starting to wonder as to where our next meal is going to be coming from.

As such, I strongly believe that we will have to keep a happy and balanced medium before we will proceed in doing what could possibly become too late to rectify.

And let it be clear to all, that I am not a greeny at all, and that I wouldn't give them the time of day if the need arise. Nor would I waste water (You know what I mean), if they were on fire either.

Now, and before closing PD et all, I am going to ask you one more question. And that is:

Why is it that China and many other nations are buying huge amounts of farms in Australia, while going under the FIRB rules and radar, if it wasn't to safeguard their future needs of food ??

As such, I repeat what I said before. Food has to play a very important part in all of this. And I feel quite sure that food suppliers in the future will generate more income and stability that what energy sorces will ever be able to supply. Because, while energy sources are only looking at short term result and in solving short term problems, the food supply will be for an unlimited and endless period of time in having to continue to supply some form of food source.
Untill there will be life in this planet, there will be the need of food to keep us alive, and where there is life, there always be the need for a food source. Unless of course, we will all become cannibals and start eating each other.

With all of that in mind, I have been buying more and more farming lands over the years myself when the opportunity arised. As to whether or not my children will have the same idea that I have, or not, that remains to be seen.

    Good luck all.

    Buddy
