As a former Qantas passenger I posted 3 years ago my reasons for deserting their ship - in essence its loss of reputation for safety & quality of service that mean it is no longer amongst the world's best.

Yes you posted about an incident 12 years ago in Bangkok that occurred under extreme weather conditions and resulted in substantial amendments to procedures by Qantas. You also mentioned an incident that turned out to be a Rolls Royce problem (I've actually stopped driving them as a result) and for which I'm pretty sure Qantas sued RR. The other one I can't remember.

I suggest your fears of safety issues are baseless. Service is an issue - that's hard to change but it can be done - depends if the staff stop whining long after the engines do.

Senators have failed to pursue Joyce on the root cause of the loss of forward bookings.

He told us what he thinks the reasons are - Qantas conducts surveys asking the question. It was the uncertanty regarding flight availability in the face of union rhetoric - do you think it's about your type of concerns rather than a union leader on radio telling people to make other arrangements? I'm betting on the latter.

Nor have they pursued him well enough on the impact his precipitous decision had on either the travelling public, emergency services or dependent businesses.

Did you watch the proceedings? He addressed this Q specifically - already more than 70k passengers had been affected by union activity and they had promised that this would continue for another year. Net result - more people affected and the company possibly mortally wounded if he did not act decisively now. Short term pain for long term gain. Minimized the effect.
