    I thought his response to a question about this was interesting.

    He started by mentioning Australia's bold move, and then went on to say that America was mandating a massive doubling in vehicle fuel efficiency.

    America has a road network that we can only dream about, and as a consequence their vehicles drive much greater distances than we do. So the efficiency move must result in a huge reduction in fuel used.

    The bottom line is that the US move will probably bring about a better result all round than our negative carbon tax.

    It also highlights tha fallacious argument about per-capita emissions. Australia has vast areas uninhabited, whereas the US has people living everywhere. So a per-capita reduction here will have a near zero effect on total emissions, while the US move will have a dramatic effect.

    As for us leading the world. Here is a message from a US friend this morning, one who watches and listens to the news all the time;

    "They have barely mentioned our man's visit to OZ. Haven't seen a picture of your PM, either."
