OK I just spoke to the ATO....they said purchase date is the date the contract was entered into, and in the Rights Issue case that was the date the contract & cheque were mailed, or BPAY executed.
Which for me was yesterday. They just hit 80%...so time to move on. It's been good chatting. See you over on another forum.
