Kincella and Tcisboss, give it a rest with the generalisations.

I'm 28 my GF is 30, we have $150k in savings, less than 20% of which is in Equities, we pay $360 per week rent and are continuing to grow our deposit for a house in Melbourne, we're within 20kms of the city in the south east and enjoying life and a prudent approach to establishing a solid financial future.

Yes there are many renters who save nothing and many losing lots in the market (both property investors and non-investors), stop putting everyone in the same boat and thinking anyone not positive on buying a property now therefore has no financial sense or future.

As a contrarian, I'd be pretty happy to hold shares for the next 5 years over property (I'm not overinvesting but as we'd like to buy and be ready to go when the right time and place comes along.
