IMO you are confusing two things, namely inflation with expectations about inflation. What is good for gold is HIGH EXPECTATIONS about future inflation and not INFLATION.
If the prices of everything double what gain would come from a doubling in the price of gold?

For instance if the Australian population doubles and consequently GDP doubles then you would be needing, with all other things being equal, to double the amount of money in circulation.
