Even in a commodity boom ..(let's hope it lasts) What are we doing right now that justifies our wages = how is 90% of our population(outside mining and agriculture) even being employed ? How much of the service industry relates to mining ?
What's sustaining/justifying our very high wages in the slack, underperforming part of our economy (outside mining) ? The 90% that's trudging along.
The second part of our economy is not a charity .. workers in Vietnam are being paid $30/week and no super but they are producing products. How are we competing against all this - and how can we afford to be wealthy consumers- based on what ??
How are our employers (outside mining) able to pay our wages - what's justifying their commercial decision to employ and pay these high wages and how is it even possible and sustainable ?
