This statement is very important for the reason you suggest, however it may also have the effect of being a heads up to other potential customers assessing the product in that if any of them are even considering the concept of exclusivity, they may be brought to the negotiating table faster than they might have expected, or run the risk of a competitor stitching up the market from under their nose.
