Duicorp, I'd have to disagree with you, at least in part.

Unions aside, their aircraft choice is baffling, the A380 definitely has its place, but it is beyond me why one would not try to truly compete against the competitors they keep on moaning about?

Emirates have just ordered and EXTRA 50 777-300ERs, on top of the 95 they already have. Yes they also run the A380 but use the 777 as an economical alternative on other routes, many of which are the ones Qantas is competing on.

It almost seems like they are simply rolling on their backs and admitting defeat on the international routes.

For me its about brand image, it would seem they are resigning to no longer being a premium carrier and putting all the money is to a discount product thus alienating corporate and business clients.

Also, as a side note: what does one think will would happen if CASA give Jetstar a show cause notice like they did to Tiger given a Jetstar plane has been involved in a similar incident that caused Tiger to be shut down.... just a LOT closer to the ground!
