I am not convinced that the Chinese are that smart.
It seems that once in every generation a new candidate for the "worst investors in history" emerges.
In the 1970's it was the OPEC nations who put the money into bank deposits only to see it inflated away.
In the 1980's it was the Japanese... (do I really need to say anything there?)
In the 2000's we have the Chinese, who I regard as a work in progress. They have dropped a bundle on USDs. They have pushed the price of gold up to $1,900. Where will they lose money next?
