I believe that Derm have been told by the Government to call for the delay because of the weight of evidence against Derm and it's employees.
The Government will use the adjournment to sit down and work out if a settlement is the most cost effective way forward, instead of an ugly court case that will now most certainly attract headlines around the time of a crucial election campaign. Couger's legal team would certainly know this and may have been accomodating with the adjournment because they sense or know that this is the case.
I certainly wouldn't be surprised if the case isn't defended by DERM, as they have little control and will be told whether or not to proceed.
However, this is the QLD Government we are talking about, so absolutely anything is possible.
