Broad gauge is 1600mm Victoria, normal gauge is 1435 NSW and Qld run narrow gauge on the rail network.
The scope of works from the rail contract has no mention of double rail in the scope of works. In Vic they construct their freight line with double rail line to accommodate the trains from NSW, the majority of diesel loco's and wagons are from NSW that's why the double line is not used in NSW.
Imo, this speaks volume. Pacific National /QR Rail and Xstrata Rail send trains up and down the eastern seaboard, and for the Gov of Vic to decide to only build broad gauge tells me that they believe they have a resource there that also warrants them to acquire their own fleet.
To outlay such an expense it tells me the Gov of Vic are committed 100% to their own coal future, and their own independence. Best thing of all Exergen along with MNM are right in the mix.
All aboard for BM.
PS if Ms Tubbs is not carefull her ass will get run over by a train.
