On another thread, the question was asked why don't the would be refugees fly directly to Australia rather than risk a dangerous boat trip.
They no doubt pay for an air fare from ?Tehran to Dubai to Djakarta anyway. So they would need a passport for this trans national trip.
But it seems they pay about $5000 to $10,000 to the odious smugglers for the boat trip. Why don't they just fly directly to Perth and apply for refugee status when they arrive?
