Chief executive of OceanaGold Corporation (ASX:OGC), Mick Wilkes, says the Philippines is "one of the most prospective" countries in the world for copper and gold mines, despite "frustrations" in the region.
He told Fairfax it's up to the company to win the support of the community at the grassroots level.
The gold producer's Didipio mine is expected to begin production in 2013, and to produce 14,000 tonnes of copper and 100,000 ounces of gold.
OceanaGold reported a profit of $17.6 million in the six months to June.
