re: re:scottaru- qan worlds second best airline Sabre, United have enjoyed 4 years of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and billions in government handouts. They have cut wages, slashed employee numbers, cancelled their pension plans, and still can't turn a profit. Last year they came within a couple of days of having their 747 fleet reposessed by the leasing company.
Qantas maintained profitablility through all this time, without one cent of outside help. Right now United enjoy the same level of government protection that Emirates and Qatari have. Hardly a level playing field.
Sometimes a mortally wounded animal needs to be put out of it's misery. Patience is running out with United. Chapter 11 cannot last forever. They may pull themselves out of their hole but only if another competitor folds first.
