You are right voltaire. I recall Paul Holmes one of the biggest exporters of live cattle supported the ban. An extract from the following link confirms this;
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/archive/business-old/industry-heavyweight-backs-live-export-ban/story-e6frg95o-1226071985827
"PAUL Holmes a Court's Heytesbury Cattle Co is one of the biggest exporters of live cattle to Indonesia, but he supports the federal government's decision to suspend the trade."
"The government had no alternative," said Mr Holmes a Court, who controls six cattle stations in Australia's north."
It certainly is very un-Australian to allow Australian cattle to be cruelly slaughtered.
