Paul McGeough,Walkley award and all, is a notorious fabricator and needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
Remember his story on Allawi? Reading between the lines on that "scoop" one got the impression that, McGeough, who fled Iraq in "fear of his life" for a short time, does all his investigative journalism cowering behind his typewriter in a safe Baghdad hotel, whilst sifting through Baghdadi rumours for lines that suit his own anti-war bias.
He was extensively quoted by the partisan and idiosyncratic media on that story but universally ignored by the “accountable” media. He is not generally a credible source of factual information.
