a phylogica takeover? think more broadly

Ok, this headline looks like one of those rampy headers that ought normally be taken down, due to ramping. However! I was doing some thinking on the usual stuff we talk about- who would take over PYC, and how that could be difficult for one Pharma if in fact four Big Pharma are using PYC's peptide libraries, and then I came across another reading of another company, and developed a different idea. So, this other company I read about, and it is one I own (won't mention it because I am not cross-promoting, and the other company's code is irrelevant), is similar to PYC, in that it acts as "base" which delivers a product to a range of companies, who compete against each other, but not for the product. The product is the same and provided to all of them. However, and here is the key: could it be one of those companies that receive the product who would take the company over? Well, according to the reading I did, no: it would more likely be the *industry* to which the product derives who would take it over, as opposed to an end-user.

So, with PYC, we have been asking how could one Pharma take over PYC, and what would that do to the other competing pharma's who use PYC. If we use the example of the above unnamed company, then it would be another science company, perhaps a peptide company, who could take PYC out. Is there another peptide company, bigger than PYC, who would wish for PYC to be out of the way, under their wing, and so they could be exclusive?

The other thing I was thinking is that private equity could take out PYC. Whilst I don't know of any private equity (Aussie ones, at least) in the bio-sciences field, private equity is all about making money, and they would just be an independent arbiter, owning PYC, and slicing off the profits to exit later. A PE company took over an energy company recently (ASX:ENE), and will no doubt sell/exit later.

I made this new thread because the other thread where we were discussing a takeover, got a bit loud, thanks to the video. If we were to speculate on a takeover, who else could it be other than our usual suspect clients? In fact, maybe individual end-users could not take PYC out at all, due to the trade secrets of PYC and Big Pharma.

    Over to you :)
