I wholehartedly agree, I am a bit of a contrarian; the world's population is ever expanding, and the supply of raw materials is in a stasis and not keeping up with demand.

Short term and longterm socio-politcal religious,and societal frictions in this world are manifestations and symptoms of this competition for the finite resources of the world, by the ever expanding population through political rivalries,which the jackal-like media serve up through the news in kitch candywraper sound bites.

The developed world is in a down cycle of stagnation and has lost the power of imagination to reinvent itself; and whereby it's population is getting older with ever changing and expanding needs and wants - and with ailments that need to be cured or managed to maintain a certain quality of life.

So I am not sold on this short term downwards blip on the world economic radar because of Europe, the US,etc, quite on te contrary.

This is only a temporary downward blip on the upward trajectory of an ever increasing and complex competition for goods; so from where I see it - and i agree with you in respect to the bio-medical field being a haven right now - this to me smells of the scent of opportunity if one can recognize it for what it is.

It surprises me to know end, that at the slightest indecision or temporary bump in the in the road of the marketplace,that these economic experts who appear on CNBC, Sky Business, or Bloomberg suddenly loose their courage and adorn the garb of insecurity to jump on the negative-nelly bandwagon and suddenly become the confident know-it-all oracular harbingers and profits of doom, where with a flick of the economic switch and cyclical pent up demand,they get it wrong and miss the boat - then belatedly jump on the good time bandwagon when it suits them.

So for mine, this world is only starting to offer us the opportunities,and if one focuses on the horizon long enough, one can see opportunity when it's staring you in the face.

For at the end of the day, these complex social, religious and economic exchanges are nothing more then the exchange between humanity as it Has always occurred when it meets in the marketplaces and bazaars of the world that has being going on from the dawn of man.
