in victoria,walking home from the pub,and in the opinion of the arresting officer,being drunk, is a $600 fine for the first offence. not fighting,peeing or vandalising, just being drunk. try that somewhere with no taxis.
if very drunk,a copper with a developed sense of humour can call an ambulance,and in rural areas with low weekend medical staffing,that can be a 100 odd kilometer ambulance trip on top of the fine. try that with no ambulance cover.
