I understand the mechanics of shorting. Sure you own the artificial creation which is your short position.
Shareholders are investors in a company. They choose to invest in the company because they believe the company will make money and they will receive dividends. They sell their shares when they believe their money would be better invested elsewhere or they need the money for some other purpose.
Or at least that is what share investing is supposed to be about.
I hold FMG shares because: 1. evidence of good management and meeting targets 2. very high ROE 3. great future growth prospects 4. undervalued at current prices in my opinion
As such I choose to invest in the company and obtain a right to a portion of its future earnings stream.
