Equity markets existed long before Rene Rivkin was born. Short selling did not exist back then.
As I said, short selling is a more recent construct. It is not something innate to markets as isplicer argues. It is also not necessary for proper function of equity markets.
I believe short selling is open to abuse by deep pocketed investment houses.
Anyway, good luck to those that trade the daily price movements. I invest in FMG for its future earnings and growth of its future earnings.
