I reckon there are only 3 ways to make any money is this environment.
1) Place cash in bank and accrue interest.
2) Buy stks with decent divs (5%+)and with strong cashflow.
3) Be patient. Have a list of yr top 10 companies and just wait for them to fall to a low PE. i.e. below 8 for large companies and 7 for smaller stuff. You'll get some at 5 imo. In addition must have franking credits.
I've never been so patient as i currently am. And i'm enjoying it. Far less stressful than being fully committed/highly leveraged.
